The moment we interact with other people we become socially involved. We recognize that other being and that has either creative value for you, that other person or for the both of you. These values can be tangible or intangible, economical and financial, individual or for society, private or for business, etc. Although the definition of the term social is fuzzy, we all have a clear feeling of what social is. When we invest socially I believe both businesses and society will have a positive return. Return on Investment (RoI) in social media in the business context is for most people a financial ratio, a return on click ratio, a Word of Mouth (WoM) ratio, or some other input-output ratio. It is used to make business decisions and the investment of time, means and money in social media is a business case with a positive or negative result. What would happen if we would speak about social investment rather than (financial) investment? 'Social' as an input item, not an outcome or a tool. Social investment in Marketing, Sales, Finance, Operations, Social Media, etc. It would emphasize the interaction, rather than the result and I think the value and the result will be social to. So I would suggest RoSI as a key indicator for both companies and society. How is your RoSI?
